My Favorite Story

Recently, for a class, I was asked what my favorite story was...

My favorite story to tell is when I got engaged. Prepare yourself for extra mushiness.

Before being accepted into the Academy of Art University, I wrote an essay as a perspective student about what fashion means to me. As a perspective student, because of my essay, I received tickets to Fall/Winter 2014-2015 Graduate Collections at New York Fashion Week. I had never been to NYFW let alone NYC. I was extremely happy. We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Midtown, drove into the city on Friday, February 7, 2014. It was the middle of winter and if you have ever been to NYC, you know how amazingly cold it can be. On our way, I received a call that I was accepted into the Academy and I couldn't be happier. This made the weekend all the better.

The first day there my boyfriend, Sergio and I, had a little bit of sight seeing to do, which mainly consisted of Times Square and shopping, the Graduate Shows started at 9 o'clock PM, so we took a taxi up. Never once did we ride the subway, at least not until the next time we were in NYC. My first at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, no longer MBFW, at the Lincoln Center was everything I could imagine, not to mention some how out of all the students that were already there I was the only one who knew who Kelly Kutrone was when she rushed through the door in a hurry to the Nicole Miller show. That was an exciting moment! After the show we hung around for a while to visist the bar, and the little shops around, and also to see who we would come across. We got to see Janice Dickenson, not my favorite person, but she does look better in person than on TV. We soon left, grabbing food and heading back to the hotel.

The next morning we got up early, grabbed a bagel, the NYC life was grand, and headed downtown to the The Westin for the Academy of Art University open house. This was a great experience and I met some amazing people, including alumni who were working for huge labels in the industry. After the open house we got to sight see and eat amazing food, also shop some. After dinner, we went to the Met before heading to central park. Here, we took a carriage ride through central park, it was cold but amazing. In the process, the tour guide stopped and let us take photos. Now, my favorite movie is Big Daddy with Adam Sandler, in this movie there is a part where he drops sticks for the skaters to trip over, horrible I know, but it is by far the funniest part of the movie. We stopped at the site and I was freaking out. As we got out to go check it out and take photos, the next thing you know, my boyfriend is down on one knee, proposing. Of course I started crying, asked if he was serious, and then said yes. It was the best day of my life. It was the perfect time, prefect weekend, with the perfect guy, in my favorite city.

The next morning we grabbed breakfast and packed up to head home, I will never forget my first time in NYC. It was everything I could ask for. This past February we were welcomed back for another show, and the last one at the Lincoln center. We also had our engagement photos done in NYC at the Lincoln during NYFW, this was very exciting. The photographer that did our photos also shot the AAU Graduate show. Now, I am planning my wedding which is next month on the 24th! Everything has gone b so fast and we are going back for the sixth time since that February, for our honeymoon and I cannot wait. There is still so much to do and see. Until then NYC.

I love this story because it was the happiest weekend of my life, I got excepted into an amazing school, was invited to NYFW, meet some amazing people working in the industry, visited NYC for the first time and fell in love, got to see and do some great things in the city and got engaged to the love of my life in NYC, in central park, during a carriage ride. What more could a girl ask for? I think everything about this story holds my interest, it is romantic, adventurous, fun and exciting. The most compelling part is how one weekend turned into more than one dream coming true, and that had never happened to me.
