Harry Potter: And The 20th Anniversary

Happy 20th Anniversary to the release of Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone (or the Philosophers Stone)!

I can't believe it has been 20 years since the first book was released and put into my hands. Oh, and I know I am like four days late (as the Anniversary was June 26) but it doesn't matter. Harry Potter is Harry Potter so I will celebrate it whenever I chose.

I remember getting the first book on my eighth birthday from my grandma. Originally, "I was like oh... cool...thanks, grams." I mean I loved reading and books have ALWAYS been my life. Ask anyone in grade school, I would stand in the bathroom line in the hallway reading a book. My parents would ground me off of my books instead of TV, and to this day I constantly have a book in my hand. Reading was and still is the only way for me to get away.

The kind of books I always enjoyed, when I was little, were "The Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley", "Goosebumps", "The Babysitters Club", "Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging", you know things like that. In other words, Harry Potter was a new one for me but, I fell in love! As the new books came out, my grandma would buy them for me and I just couldn't get enough. I never wanted them to stop. To this day, The Sorcerers Stone is my favorite book, and movie, of them all. I think I have read it eleven times in twenty years? That feeling of the beginning of everything and learning with Harry in this new and magical world, its exciting. To learn about spells, Quidditch, Platform 9 3/4, Chocolate Frogs, this whole magical world...

When the movies started to come out, my grandma would take all the kids and grandkids to the theatre to watch them. I looked forward to this every single time. Popcorn and magic! Still to this day I get super excited for the Harry Potter marathon on Freeform and when there is 'nothing' to watch, Harry Potter is ALWAYS a good idea. I pity the people who have never read the books, seen the movies or get the importance of Harry Potter. God bless J.K. Rowling.

Harry Potter has always held a special place in my heart and well, my life too. One of the best things about my marriage is we are both as obsessed with Harry Potter as the other. I mean our first child will have a Harry Potter themed room, clothes, and baby shower, boy or girl. No joke. You want to know some crazy, messed up stuff though? We have never been to Universal Studios Magical World of Harry Potter. Tsk tsk, what kind a real fans are we...broke ones.

We got crafty recently and made a Free Dobby laundry sign with socks hanging on it, I love it. I also created some really cute Harry Potter shadow boxes. Needless to say Harry Potter is my life and my husbands, thankfully. We also have rules in our house, one being no use of the word Muggle. I actually told my stepfather one time I would put soap in his mouth if he ever said Muggle again. And that leads us to another rule, no use of the word Mudblood. We take Harry Potter very seriously, like watch the movies with wands in hands seriously. If you are missing a sock it will be added to free Dobby and many more. We like to have fun with it but we do take Harry Potter very seriously. Harry Potter has been a huge part of my life for the last twenty years and I am glad I can share my experiences with you and one day my children.
